Absolutely gorgeous 18 1/2' ( 47cm )
Schmitt et Fils bebe with head incised with the " shield " mark
and the number " 2 ". The body is also stamped on the flat buttocks with a
similar " shield " logo. One of her most outstanding features are the
beautiful luminous blue threaded paperweight eyes, dramatically outlined
with well painted lashes and thick blond eyebrows, and with mauve shading on
the upper eyelids. The nose is sharp with delicately highlighted nostrils
and softly painted mouth with outlined lips with slight white space between
. It appears the artist has also tried to give the illusion of individually
painted teeth as well. She has a definite indentation between the lower lip
and the chin and the ear lobes are pierced. The distinctive Schmitt body had
eight separate ball joints with characteristically curved fingers with the
fingers separated more on the left hand than the right which is usually
found on these bodies. It is in good overall original condition with just
some typical and expected wear , especially with some crazing on the
fingers. She wears a beautiful full yellowy blond French mohair wig over (
replaced ) cork pate, a luscious burgundy pleated silk antique dress, old
undergarments, a red and black wide brimmed straw hat with black velvet
ribbon and cloth flowers, and black antique oilcloth shoes ( not quite as
old as the doll itself ). A stunning top quality desirable bebe with
incredible bisque and appeal! SOLD

This 20 1/2" (
52cm ) Rabery and Delphieu bebe is one of the most beautiful examples we
have had the pleasure to offer for sale. One cannot go by price guide prices
alone when it comes to evaluating the worth of an RD because although they
can be similarly marked, they vary greatly in quality and appeal and one
must consider the beauty of the doll, not just the mark and size, much as
one decides the value of a so-called " Portrait Jumeau " whereas the
desirability lies in " the look " and not just a mark. This exemplary doll
is incised " R.2.D" and is on a fully jointed wood and composition French
body with overall good original finish and metal hands. The bisque is
comparatively pale for an RD with slightly rosy pink blushed cheeks, pale
painted mouth with highlighted nostrils , mauve shading on the upper
eyelids, and bulbous amber paperweight eyes, and of course pierced ears. She
wears an antique blond mohair wig with bangs over a cork pate , and is
dressed in a white cotton dress with antique pink silk sash and top part of
the dress, old underwear , and antique white silk shoes with soles impressed
"6". Although newer, the elaborately constructed wire frame bonnet is made
entirely of lovely antique materials and well compliments the overall
presence of the doll. SOLD

21" ( 53cm )
Jules Steiner Bebe from the 1890's with head incised " A-13 PARIS " also
stamped in red " Le Parisien ", as well as stamped in red on the left side
of the torso " BEBE LE PARISIEN Medaille D'OR PARIS" . She has blue-grey
paperweight eyes, well painted closed mouth with full lips and highlighted
nostrils, beautifully painted lashes and thick evenly arched eyebrows, and
is on the original fully articulated Steiner body with straight wrists and
long narrow fingers ( a few cracks and one finger reglued). She wears what
could be an original dark human hair wig over a cork pate, and has been well
recostumed in a two piece pleated beige wool dress and jacket with skirt
trimmed in antique brown ribbons and the jacket having black velvet sleeves
and wide matching collar . Under the jacket is an antique white cotton
blouse with fancy lace trim at the neckline and wrists. The shoes and
stockings are newer but appropriate and match the costume perfectly. The
brown felt hat with caramel color velvet trim also compliments the overall
completeness of the attire. US$ 3,950.

blond feathered eyebrows and lashes, soft closed mouth with outlined lips,
pierced ears, and attached by the original coil spring to the near mint

" JUMEAU MEDAILLE D'OR PARIS ". She wears her original short lamb's wool wig
over cork pate, a beautiful two piece cobalt silk dress with lace trim, a
fancy antique straw bonnet with wide brim, and lovely brown
antique French leather shoes impressed "C.P. " on the soles. This doll has a
slightly pensive look and a serene expression.
