Beautiful 24" ( 61cm ) French bebe incised " J. STEINER Bte S.G.D.G. PARIS FIre A-17 " with blue-grey paperweight eyes, closed mouth, well painted tiny upper and lower eyelashes, multistroke evenly arched eyebrows, pierced ears , and fine " oily " bisque with softly highlighted and painted facial features with no obvious distractions or flaws. She is on the original light weight Steiner mache body which is fully jointed with straight wrists and bearing a paper label on the front torso with the recognized Steiner logo of a girl carrying a French flag. The finish and patina are original and in very good condition considering the age of the doll. The wig is antique light brown mohair, full and thick, and covers the original Steiner cardboard pate. Perhaps the crowning feature of this doll is the wonderful period French costume she wears with a thick black velvet base with elaborate gold and silver braided trim with well coordinated beige silk apron edged in dark lace and similar braid trim. The shoes are antique brown leather with rosettes, the stockings are antique brown wool, and the bonnet is superb antique straw woven with cloth flowers. A beautiful example of this ever popular doll in a nice larger size in all antique garb! US$ 5,250.

28" ( 71 cm. ) Gauthier bebe with the earlier " block letter " incised markings of " F.11.G. " with huge blue almond shaped paperweight eyes, closed mouth with full pouty upper lip, well painted eyebrows and lashes, pierced ears, and pronounced dimple in chin. She is on her originally fully jointed wood and composition body with straight wrists and long slender separated fingers, and appears to have the original patina in overall good condition with some obvious and natural wear commensurate with age. The costume consists of a one piece strawberry colored taffeta dress with overlapping horizontal pleated panels in front, strips of pink silk on the skirt in back ( some age melting ), and fine lace and cotton braid trim decorations. The antique leather shoes are most likely old childrens shoes; the wig is of wonderful antique light brown mohair which perfectly matches her brows and is covered by an antique fancy straw and lace bonnet with wire frame underneath to create the shape. A most desirable and beautiful doll with the quality and look of a Bru but at a fraction of the cost. US$ 7,900.

Incredibly lovely 23" ( 56 cm. ) Gauthier bebe incised " F.10.G. " ( in block letters ) with beautiful pale bisque, open/closed mouth with distinct tongue tip protruding as in the early Bru bebes, nice shading on both upper and lower lips, thick feathered eyebrows and tiny eyelashes with mauve shading on upper eyelids, and perhaps her best feature are the bulbous blue paperweight eyes that look like pools of liquid. She is on her early unmarked wood and composition heavy body with eight separate ball joints and straight wrists which is in overall very good condition with original finish. The wig is antique dark sandy blond mohair with long curls, and she wears all antique clothing which consists of all old undergarments, a fine antique dainty white cotton and fine lace dress with dropped waist with pale pink sash, a navy blue velvet bonnet with lace decoration, and antique blue drop earrings. The leather shoes are nice but are more modern replacements. One could not hope to find a more attractive early FG bebe! US$ 7,950.

Very pretty 20 1/2" ( 52 cm. ) Jules Steiner " SERIES C " bebe with incised head markings of " Sie C 3 " and below, two red stamps " J STEINER B.S.G.D.G. " and " J BOURGOIN SUCC. ". She has a closed mouth with highlighted lips, mauve shading on upper eyelids, finely painted eyelashes and thick multistroke evenly arched eyebrows, and blue glass eyes that open and close by a wire mechanism emitting from behind left side of head. As are typical of this type of Steiner the glass eyes are set in a porcelain casing which are signed in the back " STEINER 3 B.S.G.D.G. ". The light weight composition body is original and fully jointed and having the desirable swivel " banana hands " indicating the wider thicker fingers. The finish is original although with some age discoloring of varnish in places, most notably on the forearms. No stamp was found on the body. The clothing consists of an antique plaid wood dress with lace trimmed collar and sleeves, a beautiful antique blond mohair wig over original purple Steiner cardboard pate, antique brown leather shoes, and an antique wire framed straw hat with pale green silk ribbons and cloth flowers. This model is one of the more popular by Steiner and offered at a reasonable ........US$ 5,950.
