German Character:
Rarely found larger
example ( 18", 46cm ) of the Marion Kaulitz so-called " Munich Art Dolls "in
wonderful original condition with original painted finish, originally
dressed in a red cotton tunic, plaid wool knee length trousers , long black
stockings, black leather shoes, and a woven straw hat ( some typical age
wear ). These durable heads are made of a unique hard composite material
with well modeled and painted realistic facial expressive features. The wig
is original and made of dark blond mohair glued to the dome of the head. The
body is typical fully jointed composition and wood with original finish that
one would find on most any German made doll in the 1908-1910 era. These
dolls are extremely important as they are widely regarded to have inspired
the Art Doll Reform Movement to make children's dolls more closely resemble
real children in a multitude of expressions with the ultimate outcome being
the bisque head dolls made in particular by Kammer and Reinhardt, Simon&
Halbig, Gebruder Heubach, Kestner, Kley& Hahn, etc. that are so revered by
modern day collectors. These Kaulitz dolls are rarely found today,
especially ones in fine original condition, and especially in the size of
this doll ( when found, the more typical size is the 13", 33cm. size ).
These dolls have been selling for very high prices at auction over the past
few years, and considering all the qualities already mentioned we feel that
our pricing is quite fair and reasonable and should sell quickly at.....................
US$ 10,500 .

Beautiful example of the Kammer and Reinhardt " Mein
Liebling " in the largest size known ( 31 1/2", 80cm ) with head incised "
Simon & Halbig K&*R 117/A 80 " with closed mouth, large brown glass sleep
eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, on the original fully jointed heavy
wood and composition body with fine original patina. She wears a spectacular
original soft honey human hair wig with long tight vertical curls which is
such good quality than one would assume it were mohair rather than human
hair. The costume is an antique white cotton dress with pale green silk
ribbon sash at the waist, a very nice off white silk antique bonnet, and
period white leather childrens' shoes. The expression on this doll is lovely
and makes one realize why this model from Kammer and Reinhardt remains as
popular with collectors as in times gone by.
US$ 5,475.

Large ( 16" ,
41cm ) Kestner Asian baby incised " made in Germany J. D. K. 243 " with
olive tinted bisque with fired in color, brown glass sleep eyes with almond
shaped eye cuts, multistroke eyebrows and painted upper lashes, on the
original five piece bent limb body with excellent original painted finish,

He has an open mouth with two upper teeth , wide bridged nose, two vertical
laugh lines on each side of the mouth, and deep indentations extending from
either side of the mouth to the chin with a distinct roll of fat under the
chin. The elaborate two piece silk costume consists of pale mint green shirt
and pants with elaborate embroidery trim at sleeves and pants bottom, and a
five piece collar with a green based brocade piece in back, two yellow
pieces in front at outer edges, and two shocking pink panels in front center
. Each piece has elaborate embroided floral designs and each section is
edged in leather with red stitching. The elaborate head piece somewhat
resembles the pink embroidered brocade front panel of the collar and has two
large pink cloth flowers dangling on each side of the hat. The most common
size of this doll is the 13 inch version with this size being the middle
size ( although seldom found ) with the 18 inch size ( rarely found ), the
largest. A beautiful doll and priced at or about that of the smallest size
JDK 243 baby. US$ 4 ,950.
