How can one
resist this charming googly from Hertel and Schwab incised " 173 - 1 " with
brown glass side glancing sleep eyes, smiling mouth with distinct upper lip,
excellent pale bisque, and on a fully jointed German wood and composition
toddler body with fine original patina? This mold number is far less
frequently found than many of the other Hertel and Schwab googlies and
sports an original dark blond bobbed mohair wig, red antique leather shoes,
and a period factory made costume of printed cotton plaid Scots boy kilt and
blue felt jacket and matching hat trimmed in the same material as the kilt.
He is only 12" ( 32cm ) but due to his chubby body appears much bigger yet
will occupy very little space in a display cabinet. He would make someone a
wonderful Christmas or New Year's present and due to his personality and
charm may not be available much longer than that. US$
4 ,950.

Beautiful and rare 28" ( 70cm )
open mouth version of the Kammer and Reinhardt 117 ( " Mein Liebling " )
with the head incised " K*R 117 Simon-Halbig 70 ". Not to be confused with
the " 117N " mold which is a much later and commonly found doll, this seldom
found open mouth 117 was made at the same time as the closed mouth model and
more closely resembles the Simon Halbig 120 mold than the K&R 117N. This all
original example has the finest quality bisque, brown glass sleep eyes,
feathered eyebrows, painted upper and lower lashes with remnants of the
original silk upper lashes as well, and open mouth with four milk glass
upper teeth and protruding upper lip. The costume is exceptional and
consists of a pink cotton dress with lace trim, pink silk stockings and
white silk shoes impressed on the soles " HH 5 ( within a heart ) " , a
wonderful dark blond mohair wig with side part and pink silk ribbons, and a
straw bonnet with pink silk ribbon band and tiny pale pink cloth flowers. A
stunning doll which epitomizes the idealized child of 1910.
US$ 3,500.

This 14 1/2" ( 37cm ) toddler from Cuno and Otto Dressel- Simon Halbig is
incised " 1488 SIMON & HALBIG 6 " with a diamond shaped cut out on the back
of the head, an open/closed mouth (but no teeth showing ), pale blue glass
sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes and feathered eyebrows, with deep
indentations in the modeling around the sides of the eyes and eyelids. He is
on a fine quality fully jointed wood and composition body with excellent
original finish. Wearing the original bobbed blond mohair wig and an antique
white cotton gauze and lace dress, antique white cloth shoes with rosettes, white cotton
socks and an old wide brimmed straw hat, he is indeed a lovely cabinet sized version of this always popular
doll and is actually harder to find one in this cute size than it is to find
the much larger examples.
US$ 3,250.
