15' ( 38cm ) googly toddler from Hertel and Schwab incised " 165- 6 "with fine quality bisque, brown side glancing sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, smiling " watermelon slice " mouth, on an excellent chubby fully jointed wood and composition toddler body with diagonal hip joints with fine original finish ( tiny chip on tip of right thumb ). This cheerful doll wears all antique clothing consisting of a white wool dress with cutwork overlay ( a few typical moth holes ), pink cotton socks and antique white ( slight soiling ) canvas boots which bottom on the side, and a matching strawberry colored coat and hat trimmed in rabbit fur, and an antique honey colored bobbed human hair wig. This larger than average doll is always a favorite and is guaranteed to make one smile! US$ 6,450.

Adorable 9" ( 23cm ) Hertel Schwab miniature googly incised " 165 3/0 " with brown glass stationary eyes ( original setting ) glancing to the right, with closed smiling " watermelon slice mouth " on a five piece papier-mâché German toddler body in excellent original condition. She is dressed in an authentic period costume of white, cream , and beige earthtones and wears her original brassy blond mohair wig underneath the wooly hat that matches her overcoat. She would make a wonderful baby sister to the larger girl pictured above! US $3,800.

Although definitely much older by at least ten to fifteen years than the more traditional German character dolls of the so-called " Reform Movement " of 1909 and beyond, this charming doll has to be considered a true character despite it's age of manufacture. She is incised " 969 S 6 H DEP ", is 13 1/2" ( 34m ) tall, has blue paperweight eyes, open smiling mouth with four cut in upper teeth, HUGE dimples, chubby cheeks, and double chin, pierced ears wearing two tone two bead drop earrings, and is on her original early fully jointed wood and composition body with straight wrists and unusual curved lower arms, all with fine original patina. She wears a honey colored mohair wig and a simple white cotton antique cutwork dress, antique white cotton underwear, lacy white bonnet , and wonderful antique brown leather shoes with cloth rosettes. Definitely ahead of her time, she probably felt out of place in her day among her more traditionally pretty and proper cousins such as the more commonly found, 949 and 939 Simon Halbig dolls. A rare and not to be missed character! US$ 4,900.

Cheerful 15" ( 38cm ) Kestner character child with all exquisitely modeled and painted features incised " 185 " with sky blue eyes with white highlight dots on irises, separately molded upper and lower eyelids and tiny painted upper lashes, open/closed mouth with four molded teeth and wide grin, and mounted on the ORIGINAL pink fully jointed wood and composition body with fine original finish and stamped " Germany 0 3/4 ". She wears her original ash blond mohair wig with side part over the plaster pate, ( still intact and never removed from the head ), and other than the shoes which are brown leather open shoes ( probably from about 1925 ), the clothing is all period and most likely original. The dress is one piece of pleated light blue cotton, white gauze sleeves and neckpiece with red feather stitching ( as well as around the base of the skirt ). The matching red wool hat and coat with red velvet bow tie are well coordinated with the feather stitching in the dress. In addition, she has wonderful blue and white horizontally striped cotton knee length stockings that add to the overall charm of the costume. A wonderful doll, ready for display! US$ 3,250.
